PLAYING RULES  

O.W.H.A. and Hockey Canada Rules shall apply together with the following:

  1. All games are to be NON CHECKING and will be strictly enforced.
  2. Unsportsmanlike conduct from players and/or team officials will not be tolerated; please behave in a civilized manner.  Intent to injure and fighting penalties will result in being expelled from the game and from the remainder of the tournament.  All O.W.H.A. Rules governing matters of discipline will be followed.
  3. All games will be three (3) periods of ten (10), ten (10), twelve (12) minute intervals of stop time except for Bantam AA which will be (3) periods of twelve (2), twelve (2) and fifteen (15) minute intervals.
  4. In non-competitive divisions, a tie game will remain a tie.
  5. Teams must be registered and available to play thirty (30) minutes prior to their scheduled game.
  6. The teams are to mark their sweater colour on the game sheet thirty minutes prior to game time.  If there is a conflict in colour, the Home team should be prepared to change sweaters.  In the event that the selection is not appropriate, the Arena Convener will make the final decision.
  7. The two-minute buzzer system will be used to change lines in Tyke and Novice House League.  If there is mutual agreement between the coaches, the use of the buzzer system can be cancelled.

Additional Rules for Competitive Divisions

  1. Each team will be allowed one (1) thirty second time out per game.
  2. There will be no overtime played in round robin or crossover series.
  3. Points will be awarded during round robin play as follows: two (2) points for a win, one (1) point for a tie and no points for a loss.  Points will determine division standings.  If there is a tie in points, the Tie Breaker Rule will be applied.
Four Team Age Groups:

Each team will play each other team in their division once.  Round robin play will determine the division standings, with the teams finishing first and second advancing to the championship game.

Six Team Age Group:

There will be two three (3) team divisions which will play a round robin series.  Upon completion of the round robin the teams will play a crossover series with current first place round robin team playing the current third place team in the other division.  The second place teams will play each other.  The results of the crossover games will determine the final standings for each division.  The final first place team in each division will play a semi final game against the second place team in the other division with the winners advancing to the championship game. 

Eight Team Age Group:

There will be two four (4) team divisions.  Each team will play each other team in their division once.  Round robin play will determine the division standings with the teams finishing first and second in each division advancing to the semi finals.  The first place team in each division will play the second place team in the other division with the winners advancing to the championship game. 

Twelve Team Age Group:

There will be three four (4) team divisions.  Each team will play each other team in their division once.  Round robin play will determine the division standings with the teams finishing first in each division advancing to the semi finals.  In addition, a Wild Card team will advance to the semi finals.  The Wild Card is the team not finishing first with the best record over all divisions as determined by points or the Tie Breaker.

Tie Breaker Rule

  1. Most number of wins in round robin play;
  2. Record against other tied teams;
  3. Goals scored minus the goals against in round robin play;
  4. Fewest goals allowed in round robin play;
  5. Most periods won in round robin play;
  6. Fewest penalty minutes in round robin play;
  7. First goal scored in series;
  8. Flip of a coin.

Overtime Rules

Semi Final Games

    If the teams are tied after regulation play, the following will be used to break the tie:

  1. One five (5) minute sudden victory overtime period with three (3) players and a goalie vs. three (3) players and a goalie.  During this overtime period the Delayed Penalty rule is modified so that the team will be playing with no fewer than two (2) skaters and a goalie
  2. Sudden victory penalty shots.  The Home team will have the option of shooting first or second.  Each player on a team must shoot before any player may shoot again.  Any
    player(s) serving a penalty that has not expired at the end of the overtime period may not participate in the penalty shot tiebreaker

Championship Games

    If the teams are tied after regulation play, the following will be used to break the tie:
