BARRACUDAS IN THE NEWS

Barracudas in the Community

The Sr AAA Barracudas continue to do their best and give back to the Burlington hockey community. Over the past few months, they have been holding on and off ice clinics for the Burlington Girls Hockey Club. We would like to thank BGHC for their on going support!

Congratulations Ashley Johnson!

Ashley Johnson, a member of the Burlington Barracudas Jr. A team, and affiliate player with the Sr AAA Barracudas, recently accepted an athletic scholarship to attend Union college and play NCAA Division 1 hockey next year. We wish her all the best through the next four years of her hockey career and education at Union.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 28, 2009

Saturday versus Vaughn proved to be a game of pure finesse and perfect precision…  That is how I had hoped to start this game summary.  Now for the more accurate snap shot of Saturdays nights face off played in Vaughn at The Sports Village:  The entirety of the game was not a pretty one.  It was choppy hockey at both ends of the rink but the Barracudas proved to be the stronger of the two teams and came out with a 5-2 win.

Lindsay Vine of Kirkland Lake opened the scoring for the Barracudas with a breakaway pass from linemate Jana Harrigan half way into the first period. Less then a minute later Kelly Hart popped in the second of the game which gave the Barracudas confidence heading into the locker room after the first.

The third and 4th goals of the night came from Amanda Parkins who made her first appearance back in the lineup since September 12th exhibition game where she was injured on an unfortunate yet beautiful block against the Barracudas Junior team.  Parkins strolled in on her first game back with 2 goals and an assist in the contest and her energy and work ethic was definitely felt across the team.  With a short roster this season, adding a skilled and energy player at this point will make a huge impact.  Closing out the scoring for Burlington was rookie defenceman Ainsley Brien early in the third.

Another solid showing by rookie goaltender Allison Cubberley who made 25 saves on the night steering everything at her to the corners to allow her team to keep the puck out of the back of their net.

The Flames weren’t on the scoreboard until late in the third where they capitalized on a power-play and then made it 2 with less than 3 minutes remaining.  Not the finish the Barracudas were hoping for however their focus is now on the big match against the Mississauga Chiefs Sunday afternoon at Appleby Arena.  The Barracudas look forward to a little redemption against the Chiefs as the last two showings have been shoot out losses.  The Chiefs currently having a pretty strong hold on first place and Burlington hope to lessen that gap as they are nearing the halfway point of the season.
